After participating in this course, you will be able to:
• Determine the appropriate project model: Design-Build, EPC, Construction Management, P3, BIM
• Allocate project risk, and compile contract documents that reflect that allocation clearly
• Use appropriate procurement documents and processes to assemble the optimal project team
• Manage design processes to ensure the owner’s expectations are satisfied, and construction proceeds without delay
• Monitor project execution through construct, start-up, commissioning, and close out
• Project delivery methods
• Implementing the model
• Developing the right project contract
• Procurement
• Building the project
• Dealing with third parties
• Wrapping up the project
The traditional general contractor/design-bid-build method of construction first became popular in mid-nineteenth century London, England and continues to be the most popular method of construction project delivery. Now, over a hundred and fifty years later, its inherent limitations are the biggest impediments to the delivery of better and leaner projects with greater cost-certainty.
A number of project delivery models have evolved to provide quality projects quickly and economically: design-build, construction management of various kinds, EPC, P3 and BIM. In this course, we consider the features and the pros and cons of these various project delivery methods to determine the appropriate one to use.
